Responsible & legal use of GPS trackers
GPS trackers are useful tools — for protecting your own vehicle, managing a family or business fleet, and recovering stolen property. They can also be misused. This page explains what AATRAX supports, and what we will never help with.
Legitimate uses we cover on this site
- Tracking your own car, truck, motorcycle, RV, or boat;
- Monitoring vehicles driven by your teenage children (with their knowledge and the family’s agreement);
- Managing vehicles owned by your business or fleet;
- Helping locate a vehicle after theft;
- Tracking an elderly relative’s vehicle with their consent, to keep them safe.
What is not okay
Placing a tracker on a vehicle you do not own, or tracking another adult without their knowledge, is illegal in many U.S. states and in many countries. It can constitute stalking, harassment, or an invasion of privacy — regardless of your reason. AATRAX does not publish guides for covertly tracking spouses, partners, employees without consent, or anyone else, and we will not respond to requests for such content.
Check your local laws
Laws on vehicle tracking vary by state and country. Before using any tracker, confirm that your intended use is legal where the vehicle is registered and where it will be driven. When in doubt, ask a lawyer.
Privacy of the data
A tracker that protects your car also collects your location history. Use strong passwords, enable two-factor authentication where available, and only share account access with people you trust. If you sell or stop using a tracker, remove the vehicle from the account and wipe the device.
